Minimalistic and Bold | Modern Box Homes

Driving through the neighborhoods of Del Mar, California you realize there isn’t one “preferred” style, but rather a focus on quality architecture that blends with the surroundings, using harmonious materials and colors, and incorporates natural landscapes.

One consistent design is the “box homes”.  Box homes are modern homes that have minimal, clean lines and bold shapes. These boxy shaped residences create an eye-catching contrast with the organic forms of the natural world, prioritizing ocean and landscape views, indoor-outdoor living and the use of natural and harmonious materials.

The Box Modern architectural style is the new trend in contemporary living, embraced for its minimalist design, clean lines and geometric precision. Characterized by cube-like volumes, a flat or hidden roofline with a parapet wall and expansive glass elements, it creates a bold and distinctive aesthetic. 

The style prioritizes open-plan layouts, maximizing natural light and blurring lines between indoor and outdoor spaces. Monochromatic color palettes, whites, greys and blacks, deliver a sophisticated appeal. Whether in urban landscapes or open countryside, Box Modern homes are a statement in form, function and individuality.

There was a trend in this type of building in Del Mar in the late 70’s to early 80’s. This architectural style is one that has stood the test of time, and these homes easily evolve because of their design integrity. I’ve been fortunate to have sold several of these homes throughout Del Mar.
